Sheela-na-gig is figurative carving or architectural grotesque of naked woman and Seán-na-Gig of naked man, found on churches, castles, and other buildings (particularly in Ireland and Great Britain), each alone or together. They are said to represent fertility and life, and ward off death and evil too - it is commonly said that their purpose was to keep evil spirits away. They often are positioned over doors or windows, presumably to protect these openings.
